John Laverack

Principal

Career History:

After College in the UK I worked for DCA, a multidisciplinary design consultancy that still thrives today – this was a great grounding for my career. I moved to the USA to work for the well-known Henry Dreyfuss Associates in NYC for 2 years and then ended up staying in the USA working for consultants and medical manufacturing companies.

Areas of Specialty

I love sketching and idea generation in a collaborative environment.

Outside of Work:

I have two wonderful kids and a wife of 35 years. On a continual quest to dingy sail better than my son!

Unique Attributes:

I hope I bring a strong sense of humor to the work place, maybe that British sense of sarcasm that is a little 'over the top' to help lubricate the creative style of the place. I’m happy to not be the smartest guy in the room if that will encourage a good exchange of concepts.

The thing you want to say:

"The details matter - but some more than others."

Kurt Weseman

Industrial Designer

The Big Things:

Kurt is a graduate of the Industrial Design program at the University of Bridgeport. While becoming a core member of the Nexus Design team over the better part of a decade, Kurt has not lost touch with his educational foundation. He is an adjunct instructor for Solidworks 3D design courses, for the UB Industrial Design program.

The Special Things:

For Kurt, It’s not just about being a product designer; it’s about being a product redesigner. Whether it’s that new Ikea hack or the backpack with extra straps sewn on, the mission to make good products better occurs in and out of the office.

Outside of Work:

When not running to meet a project deadline, Kurt is often outside running or biking or running some more - rain or shine hot or cold. What’s the goal? Day to day, it’s a form of moving meditation. Over the time, maybe it’s a marathon. We’ll keep you posted.

What are you obsessed about?

Understanding truth & actuality

Outside of Work:

Trying to raise boys (Boy Scouts, sports, homework) and learning to play soccer.

Unique Attributes:

Clever yet positive responses to “Why won’t this work?”
Agreeable interaction with John Laverack

John Pelosi

John Pelosi

Senior Industrial Designer

Education

Syracuse University, Bachelor of Industrial Design

Professional Milestones:

For me, a professional milestone equates to any projects that benefit other people, to objects that positively impact our world. I have had the opportunity to work on several projects in the medical field, the national security field and humanitarian design. From surgical equipment to transitional housing, industrial design allows me to delve into these problems and find solutions that work.

Areas of Specialty

I specialize in details. I am obsessed with details. Everyone knows what you find in the details, right? Well, I find it and then fix it.

Achievements

I have some patents and worked on a design project that is now part of both the MOMA and Smithsonian collections (this project was also an INDEX Design winner).

Outside of Work:

Outside of work… I enjoy spending time with my family. My three-year-old daughter is teaching me how to dream again and see the wonder in the littlest things. I am learning to play the ukulele and am a beer aficionado. Wait, I don’t avidly drink, I taste. Yes, I love to taste and talk about it.

Unique Attributes:

If I left Nexus my co-workers would miss on-hand IT repairs. I am the first in line for office IT support. And if the team’s computers were all functioning perfectly, they’d miss my Hawaiian shirts.

The Thing You'd Like to Say:

You are
What you do
When it counts.

Linda Forney

Linda Forney

Purchasing & Client Liaison

Education:

Marist College, BA in Computer Mathematics, Minor in Business

Career History:

Upon graduation, I worked twenty-two years with IBM within the application development industry with varying technical and leadership roles progressing from Programmer to Project Manager. While at IBM I became Project Management Professional PMP certified. Since my leave from IBM I worked for Scott Technology in Quality Control and have been now with Nexus Design for the past four years.

The Special Things

I spent half my life as a Girl Scout where 16 of those years were as a leader helping to make the world a better place and providing new opportunities and travel experiences for girls. The highlight of our travels was lodging at an Eco-Resort on St. John’s Island where the girls experienced scuba diving and snorkeling with a jaunt to Puerto Rico to hike in a Rain Forest and paddle across the Bioluminescent Bay on Viegues Island.

I continue to explore new opportunities and experiences while at Nexus with my interactions with the varied clients and delivery teams globally.

Outside of Work

Besides work, I also was actively involved in my two daughters' educations and community involvement from classroom parent to PTO President, Parent Council and Annual Fund representative at Westover School (Middlebury, CT), Religious Education Instructor and I still participate in providing meals for the local Soup Kitchen.

I enjoy cooking, gardening and traveling with my husband of 30 years. We try to explore new destinations, although our girls are many miles ahead of us with their travels around the world.

The Little Things:

Although my desk at work may not look overly organized, the Nexus team relies on me for 'total recall' since I have a knack for remembering and finding just about anything at my fingertips!

The Thing You Want to Say:

Life is too short to be anything but happy!
